The Dreamland Trust is delighted to announce its Spring Event programme for 2011, which includes new additions; John Lawson’s Circus 2-6 March and Scott May’s Daredevil Stunt Show on Sunday 24 April plus the very welcome return of Carter’s Steam Fair for an extended 9 days from 28 May to 5 June.
The Dreamland Margate project is progressing well with the scaffolding now in place around the Grade II* listed cinema building ready for urgent works to begin. This will be followed by urgent works to the Grade II listed Scenic Railway and ‘Lord’ George Sanger’s listed animal cages. Meanwhile the Dreamland Trust continues to work in partnership with Thanet District Council and Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company Ltd to secure the land.
Project Director, Jonathan Bryant said, “The Dreamland Trust board and its partners, are shortly to consider the final designs for submission to Heritage Lottery Fund which has been supporting the project through its development stage. There are some very exciting ideas and themes coming forward, which will make Dreamland a unique and quintessentially British tourist attraction with a wide appeal to local families and visitors to the region. Dreamland’s rebirth has always been a phased project which will build incrementally. The official opening may be put back slightly but we are committed to offering attractions this year and next. We are very excited by the many opportunities for local and community involvement in the rebuilding and restoration of Dreamland – the famous Scenic Railway in particular.”
The Dreamland Trust’s Chairman, Nick Laister, says; “We have come a long way from a campaigning organisation to a trust that is actually taking the lead in delivering a revitalised Dreamland. This is one of the best examples I know of a community actually becoming directly involved in making things happen on the ground rather than just watching from the side-lines.”
