Work is well underway to safeguard Dreamland’s heritage assets. The first stage is the remedial works to prevent further deterioration and water penetration to the Grade II* listed cinema building.
We are also now considering tenders, submitted by various international wooden roller coaster specialists, to undertake restoration work to the amusement park’s historic Grade II listed Scenic Railway.
The Dreamland Trust’s Chairman, Nick Laister, said, “Seeing this important restoration work start on the Cinema is a fantastic end to 2010 and will be closely followed early next year with works to the Scenic Railway. We still have significant hurdles to cross, but we are going into 2011 with the prospect of seeing Dreamland transformed over the next 12 months.”
The work is being funded by grants awarded to The Dreamland Trust and Thanet District Council from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Sea as part of the Government’s Change programme to reinvigorate British seaside towns through culture and heritage.
